Pair VICTORIAN Historical Towels
This is a matching pair of Victorian fringed towels quite possibly manufactured for George Washington's 100th anniversary of being elected as President of The Federal Union in March 1789. The double damask weave is quite exceptional with Federal shields in all four corners, Eagles, and the inscription which also reads: The Independence of the United States of America declared July 4th 1776 and E.PLURIBUS.UNUM.
Each towel measures 40" long x 20" wide with NO holes, NO stains. Just one towel has a 1/2" split near the fringe ~ see pen in last photo. Historical pairs of towels are far and few these days.
