Two Vintage Appenzell Type Guest Figural Towels

Lovely matching pair of vintage APPENZELL type guest towels. The curator of the Appenzell museum in Switzerland suggests to us that we cannot use the word Appenzell for this type of handwork unless it has an attached original label. These towels might not have been made in the Swiss hamlet of Appenzell but they could have been made in a neighboring town since the handwork is that good. The snow white Irish linen has a figure of a reclining woman with a handful of beribboned florals. They have the Swiss five-petal flower, seed stitches, and fancy background filling stitches for the gridwork. Measure 34" long x 22" wide. Freshly washed to be clean, lightly starched, and perfectly pressed.
