19th C. BRIDE'S New England Counterpane QUILT

A 'must have' for every future bride in 19th century America was a white cotton hand stitched quilt. This beauty was found in MAINE in an old homestead without provenance, I'm sorry to say. It was wrapped in burlap and stuffed in a corner of an 18th C. home and forgotten until the new owners of the 14 year abandoned homestead recently discovered it. I have given new life to this American cotton beauty by gently soaking it in a secret mixture of Borax. Happily, the cotton is strong and healthy and shows absolutely NO signs of use or wear at all. The hand stitched binding is perfect as is the quilt itself. The pattern looks like PINEAPPLE and LEAF with hand quilting at about 8 to 10 stitches an inch. I'm calling this a COUNTERPANE QUILT even though there seems to be a light layer of cotton between the front and back cotton since I can see a few 'cotton' seeds. Measures 76" x 76", freshly washed to be CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN with absolutely NO problems at all for an antique quilt/counterpane. Once you receive this quilt, inspect it closely for there just might be a hand stitched date and monogram.
