Vintage BATES Bedspread

BATES TEXTILE MILLS, Auburn/Lewiston, Maine is the place this vintage bedspread was manufactured. Purchased from a homestead in Auburn where one family with many generations worked at the textile mill.

BATES had a way of producing many bed coverlets and bedspreads in many innovative patterns, this is one. This would be called a whole cloth coverlet/spread since it's one piece of fabric. The top side has a puckered weave possibly made on a jacquard loom. Besides the white background, there are 4 loomed colors of yellow, lavender, peach, and green for the WILDFLOWER pattern ~ I have shown the backside with the BATES label. I found one tiny tan dot which will probably disappear when washed ~ see photo #2 next to yellow flower. Measures 102" long x 90" wide ~ as you can see it fits a standard/full bed with plenty of side drop so this will also fit a queen bed. This is made from pure AMERICAN cotton and does have the BATES label attached.
